Real Wedding Wednesday: Kasey and Joey

We love to feature real weddings!. Today we are happy to share with you these favorites from the wedding of Kasey and Joey, by our very talented friends over at Marie James Photography.  We love Kasey's retro inspired tea length dress with its gorgeous overlay and think she looks so natural and radiant in these pictures.  We also are really loving the fun vintage looking flower in her hair as well as the groom's relaxed, yet formal, look with the gray striped pants, ivory vest, and solid black jacket. In addition to the bride and groom's great fashion choices, Kasey's bridesmaids wore alternating pink and green dresses, adding another element of fun and cheer to what we're sure was a beautiful wedding.  Are you a recent bride or a photographer and would like us to feature your wedding or a wedding you have shot, please feel free to email us the details to paperdollromance@gmail.com. We'd love to hear from you!

Thanks to Danielle over at Marie James Photography for sharing these with us.  Congratulations to Kasey and Joey.  We wish you happiness, always.

Color Day: Pink, Teal, & Seafoam

Ready for spring?  While there's still 26 days left of "Winter", it certainly feels like Spring's on it's way with these crazy 50 and 60 degree days in the northeast.  While we're sad to have missed out on snow storms (and snow days!) this winter, we are looking forward to Spring and are multitude of weddings that are coming up.  Here's a look at one of our favorite muted, yet modern, spring color combos. We love the contrast of the teal, which helps add a little sophistication and richness to this otherwise muted palette.

Color Day Themes: Bicycle Built for Two

They say the couple that plays together stays together.  People must be catching on to this secret, as totally adorable tandem bicycles have been popping up all over. The image of the tandem bicycle is one that we associate with happy couples that work as a team, riding in unison, and who genuinely enjoy having fun together.  If life is a journey or an adventure, we say grab hold of the handle bars and enjoy the ride...on your bicycle built for two.

Wedding Style: Cake Toppers

One half of the PDR team celebrates a birthday today!  So, let's all wish Saira a very "Happy Birthday!" and hope she gets to take some time out of bar studying to enjoy herself.

Birthdays get us thinking of sweet and delicious cake!  And, no cake would be complete without a topper.  Typically for birthdays you'll get fun trick candles, maybe a fire truck or other plastic toy prop, cheesy photo of yourself, etc. etc.  But, for weddings, you get something more than a decoration, you get a piece of art that serves to make a statement.  Here are a few noteworthy wedding cake toppers that show a lot of personality!  Display these toppers on your cakes for decoration, in your scrapbook for future generations to see, or on a book shelf to act as a memento, and intriguing conversation piece, for years to come:

Did we ever think something made out of paper could be this intricate and beautiful? Concarta features some gorgeous cake toppers that are carefully constructed out of paper, though you certainly wouldn't believe it at first glance.  The attention to detail is amazing and we think these are a lovely, romantic, and modern twist on the traditional bride and groom cake topper.

Those fond of Philly's Love Park will enjoy this cake topper.  The topper is a replica of the Robert Indiana statue that stands in Philadelphia and many places around the globe.  Art lovers, skate boarders, and modern couples everywhere would be thrilled to have this sculpture, by Blue Butterfly Design, adorn the top of their cake!

Ok, seriously, how cute are these!?  These pewter love birds, by sugarrushcakes, really take the cake! They are so simple and elegant and would be the perfect addition to any confectionery creation.  Plus, we think these would look adorable on a shelf afterwards as a little decorative element.

As far as wooden doll designs go, togetherforever's cake toppers are something to marvel at.  The craftsmanship is top notch and the final result is nothing short of delightful.  Complete with handmade clothing, childlike hand painted faces, and customized to your wedding color and style, these toppers are works of art that are irresistibly charming.

You love your pets, so why not include them on your cake and portray yourselves as the happy family you are.  These toppers, by peanutbutterbandit, are hand painted and customized to resemble the bride and groom, and their cats! How fun!  Plus, these wooden doll pieces are more affordable then some similar ones we have in this post, so it's a great option for you brides on a budget to get an adorable topper without sacrificing style!

Love birds are some of our favorites and these, personified as the bride and groom, are modern and fun but still incredibly graceful.  These birdies RedLightStudio are so cute and whimsical and can be customized to suite the bride and groom's style (check out that flower in the hair!) and colors.

We think it's adorable when the cake topper really represents the couple well and this one certainly says a lot!  Bike enthusiasts everywhere will appreciate this tandem bike topper by etsy seller HeatherBoyd.  This cycling couple is handmade using metal wire, and customized with the names of the bride and groom!  How does it stand up, you ask?  With a kickstand, of course!

"Let them eat cake!"

Color Day: Au Naturel - Milk and Honey

We love the coolness of the milky white paired with the subtle warmth of the honey colored yellow/gold and what better color scheme for a hot summer day that crisp and clean neutrals. This milk and honey color palette is extremely serene and inviting and is sure to help you and your guests think cool and calming thoughts.  Beat the heat with a color scheme that is light and airy just like the materials for the season.. think cotton, linen, and flowy chiffon.  We also love this look for home decor (Hello, all you apartment dwellers with white walls!) and think this is the perfect color scheme to give you that clean, bright, and open living space that is also cozy and inviting.

April Showers bring MAY FLOWERS!

We haven't said it yet, so Happy May! We've already started posting some great flowers for spring, so here are some more of our favorites!  Another flower that is particularly seasonal to the spring is the peony.  This flower is large, full, and romantic and has layers of soft petals that make it look particularly lush and voluminous.  Peonies are gorgeous but expensive flowers, so if you live in our area we recommend them only for spring and very early summer... unless you want to pay an arm and a leg for them by having them shipped from who knows where.

This peony bouquet is absolutely charming! Romantic pink and peach peonies are paired together for a super feminine, vintage kind of look. We love how loose it looks, but at the same time how full and dreamy!  And it all comes together with a soft, feminine white ribbon!

This simple, pink peony centerpiece would be perfect for any springtime event. And, we love how easy this look is to pull off! Just find a vintage vase at a local flea market and stick in a few blooms and you're ready to go -- these flowers are so full that it just takes a couple to really make an impact.

For reasons we cannot fathom, not everyone chooses to incorporate shades of pink in their lives. For these people, there is the romantic white peony bouquet. The clean, bright whites, fabulous texture, and soft contrast of the yellow center makes these the perfect choice for a little bit of a more subdued romance.

Again going for the vintage kind of look we love this antique-y vase and the very pale pink blossoms. They are subtle enough to satisfy any pink loving girl, but classy and muted enough to serve as a gorgeous decoration for any vintage inspired event without being overwhelming.

Is is possible for a bouquet to be too full? NEVER! We absolutely love how lucious this yellow bouquet of peonies is and wish we could just reach out and touch it. There is nothing more picturesque than a full, soft, texurized bouquet and this one certainly has it all. Plus the pale yellow makes it look good enough to eat!

And, for a more modern look, we love these pink and white peonies with the contrast of the chartreuse ribbon!  The ribbon plays up the yellow tones in the white peonies while adding a beautiful contrast to the pink ones. The simplicity of having just one type of flower, plus the casually tied bow, makes this bouquet both casual and elegant.

And, of course, the modern centerpiece. There's nothing sweeter than combining fresh fruits with gorgeous blooms and we think this is a great example of how the two can be paired harmoniously. The use of the white linens and the limes sharply contrasting with the fucshia and pink create a look that it crisp and fresh.
