Color Day Themes: Fly Away with Us

Anyone out there share our wanderlust (and secret obsession with The Chipmunk Adventure movie)?  If so, this board is for you!  Riding in a hot air balloon is often thought of as romantic, but, as Jen learned first hand, it actually can be kind of awkward - think you, your lover, and the creepy balloon man.  Nevertheless, hot air balloons are amazing, whimsical and truly, truly beautiful to watch.  Plus, there is something extremely liberating about going wherever the wind takes you!

The Jewelry Box

If you're anything like us, then you probably have a TON of jewelry you've collected over the years. We tend to keep everything, but the problem is we end up losing half of it because it's all over the place!  Or, if we don't lose it, it ends up tangled in a knot at the bottom of our purse. Get organized and keep all your precious "jewels" intact with some stylish jewelry boxes.

Liven Up Your Office Space

Sad to not be shopping for school supplies like everyone else?  Shop for office supplies instead! How you express yourself at work varies depending on where you work. Sometimes the best way to make your statement is right at your own office / cubicle / desk. As a general rule, stay away from cute baby posters (à la Angela from the office), collages of Rob Pattinson, and knick knack overloads.  But definitely opt for some art, cute desk accessories, and the like to give your office some flavor. Here are some ideas:

Color Day: Magenta, Plum, and Teal

Today's color board was made for our friend, and bride to be, Val.  Over the weekend Jen was able to catch up with Val and of course she had to ask what her wedding colors would be. Although Val didn't seem totally sure on this kind of modern jewel tone/semi-peacock color combination, we love it and think these vibrant colors really represent her energetic, fun-loving personality well.  So, Val, this one's for you!  We hope it helps to ease your wedding stress and to get you revved up for all the fun planning you have coming your way!

Back to School: Dorm 101 featuring PB Teen

Back to school time is upon us and, for some of you, that means getting ready to go off to college for the first time.  Before you grab your twin XL sheets and Easy Mac and get ready to depart, be sure you've picked up some of the other essentials to help keep you organized and add a little character to your room.  Sure, you might not be allowed to paint the walls, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun with your space.  Here's a look at some of the great dorm decor items available at PB Teen.

Back to School Bags!

We're not sure how many of our readers are going back to school this fall, and even though back to school shopping is a fond memory for us, we still can't help posting about it. For starters, everyone knows that back to school means getting a new bag. Now call us old fashioned, but we're into book bags again. And we're not talking your old school 6th grade Jansport (although you will see some Jan Sport in the mix). We're talking some truly stylish pieces that will make you wish you were back to school, roaming the halls, skipping classes... ahhh the good old days!

Fall Fashion: Structured Cross Body Bags

Ditch your slouchy oversized bags and frumpy totes for a small, more structured looking bag this fall! Boxy cross body bags are showing up in stores everywhere and are definitely must haves for this fall. Not only are they durable and convenient, they can also help make you look professional and put together in no time at all.

Fall Style: Betty Draper + Banana Republic

We're going mad over the new collection for Banana Republic, designed in collaboration with Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant.  If only this has come out a few months ago when we were doing our Mad Men inspiration posts, but, alas, better late than never.  We love the full skirts, demure lace, and the classy use of leopard print. Embrace the feminine, flirty 60's fashion and prepare to turn heads Betty Draper style. Or, for some seriously sexy suiting for the man in your life, check out their dapper Don Draper 3 piece suit.

Color Day: We All Scream for Ice Cream

These hot days of August have got us on a mint green kick, thinking cool thoughts.  The fresh minty color cools us to the core, just like a few scoops of chocolate chip mint ice cream, one of our favorite summer treats.  Although it sometimes comes au natural in the form of a creamy white ice cream, we grew up on the artificial, yet pretty, bluish green shade speckled with rich chocolate chips.  Whether for the palate, or the palette, mint chocolate chip is certainly an appealing and refreshing choice for summer, fall, or really (who are we kidding?) anytime.

Hair Style Look Book: The Pixie

Cool, stylish, and very mod, the pixie cut is back in full swing. Celebs all over the place are chopping off their locks and opting for a more refreshing style. Now, we realize that the pixie cut is not for everyone (which Saira learned the hard way in 11th grade), so we suggest "faking" the cut by strategically pinning up your locks or, if you're Photoshop savvy, editing your locks for a mini preview before making the full commitment. The look is easy, low maintenance, and perfect for hot summer days. Once you decide to go for the cut, you'll need inspiration, so take a look!

Color Day Themes: The Great Gatsby

Today, we pay tribute to the 1920's with an inspiration board perfect for all you Gatsby lovers. The Great Gatsby has been one of our favorite books for years and, with the new Baz Luhrmann movie (with an all-star cast!) rumored to begin shooting this September, we can bet we'll see a resurgence of 1920's fashion and style in the upcoming year. So, break out the art deco, pearls, feathers, drop waist gowns and cloche hats and create an extravagant and lavish look that would be sure to please even Gatsby himself.

Real Wedding: Freya and Matt (Part 1 of 2)

We love it when our readers send us photos of their weddings to feature on our blog.  We love it even more when that reader is a friend of ours and we can make her feel extra special by showing off her gorgeous wedding to all of you! Freya, our friend and PDR enthusiast, met Matt over 10 years ago at a house party and she says it was truly love at first sight. In fact, she recalls announcing to her friends that she was certain he would be the one she married.  Although they didn't start dating right away, a mutual passion for music, travel, and food helped them to become fast friends and in 2007, six years later, they began dating.  Three years after that they got engaged and started planning their big day, which we are lucky to be able to share with you today! These two make a great couple and their June wedding had a lot of lovely details that helped their fun loving personalities shine through. Here's a look at some of our favorites from Freya and Matt's wedding (taken by the talented folks over at RHM Photography):

There were just so many charming portrait shots and fun reception pics that we decided we couldn't squeeze it all into one post. So, we hope you enjoyed this little preview but be sure to check back Friday for Part 2 for more Freya and Matt and for some of the details like the dress, venue, etc.
